In order to get back into the swing of things, we’ve put together our highlights of the past season for you. See it as our extra dose of motivation for the upcoming season and it’s undeniable highlight, the Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympics! ;) Continue reading →

Hairdos for fencing. The best styles for under the mask.

Hairdos for fencing. The best styles for under the mask.

It's a problem every fencer with long hair (and in fencing this means everything that is not a pixie...) knows: what in heaven's name are you supposed to do with your mop under a fencing mask? This is way more than a questions of good or bad looks, since at some competitions the wrong hairdo might even put you at risk of a yellow card! We've teamed up with our Instagram girl Johanna, who has first-hand experience of the issue, to give you a round-up of the rules and the best strategies to tame your hair.  Continue reading →

How to rewire your epee - Part 1: How to prepare your blade

How to rewire your epee - Part 1: How to prepare your blade

It’s probably the task most fencers secretly (or even not so secretly) fear: rewiring a blade. But no matter whether it’s because the wiring of your favourite blade is damaged, you want to use a different kind of tip than the one your blade came with or you simply bought an unwired blade – there are moments in a fencer’s life when you just have to face that task and get it done. We’ve put together some useful tips for rewiring your epee. Brought to you by our Instagram girl Johanna, who regularly rewires her weapons by herself. Today’s post will focus on how to best prepare your blade for the actual rewiring. Continue reading →

Experiencing Wireless fencing

Experiencing Wireless fencing

You may have heard of our revolutionary wireless fencing system (and enjoyed our video), but have you ever tried it? Luckily, there's the fencing community if you haven't. Our collegues from Leon Paul France tracked down a coach who, after more than two years of use, is able to provide a long-term insight into the practical benefits of our wireless system, so we've decided to share the interview they did with French coach Thierry Tomine with you.   Continue reading →

"Epee fencing" by Steve Paul - a review from fencers for fencers

"Fencing and books – two of my favourite things together in one picture". The comments to our Instagram celebration of world book day back in April suggest that we’re not the only ones to enjoy a good read from time to time. All the better, if it’s fencing-themed. So what could we do better than to share our finds and have the books available on our website reviewed by fencers, from international top athletes to fencers more like you and me? We start with a review by our Instagram girl and epee fencer Johanna (who definitely belongs into the latter category ;) ) . Continue reading →

How to rewire your epee - Part 2: gluing the blade

We're back with the second part of our armoury series for epeeists. In the focus today: how to glue your blade. As last week, all tips and tricks shared here are based on the experience of our Instagram girl Johanna, who prefers to have all her epees equipped with our ultra light titanium tip (if even Bas Verwijlen does, who can blame her? ;) ) and therefore regularly rewires her blades. The travelling fencer problems. 10 Do’s and Dont's when you’re on the road as a fencer

The travelling fencer problems. 10 Do’s and Dont's when you’re on the road as a fencer

You might have heard about the so-called travelling salesman problem, which is one of the most studied conundrums amongst computer scientists, but here at Leon Paul we believe there is another problem out there that merits at least the same level attention, and that’s the problems you face when you’re on the go with your fencing kit. (If you've ever gotten into a fight before your actual fencing class with an opponent named “revolving doors”, you know what we’re talking about). So, based on the experience of our Instagram girl Johanna, we’ve collected 10 Do’s and Dont's for the travelling fencer. Warning – they might need to be taken with a pinch of salt ;)     Continue reading →

New year resolutions: the battle is on. Thoughts of a fencer

New year resolutions: the battle is on. Thoughts of a fencer

It’s that time of year again. January. The moment to set out goals for the 365 days ahead… and as every year, fail miserably? For our start into 2019 we’ve decided to look at the popular sport of making new year resolutions (and almost immediately breaking them) from a fencer’s point of view. We won’t convert this into a self-help blog (promise!), but here are some thoughts about good intentions (and how they may or may not pave the way to hell).   Continue reading →

Walking the fashion show at the FIE anniversary gala (and the idea behind it)

Working at Leon Paul definitely comes with unexpected tasks and experiences. If you don’t believe us, just ask our Instagram girl Johanna, whom we sent to Paris this past weekend on a quite extraordinary mission: at the gala held at the Grand Palais in Paris to celebrate the 105th anniversary of the International Fencing Federation, along with World cup fencer (and accidentally also her colleague) James Honeybone; she walked down the runway in what we think is a fencing uniform that could ensure the future of our sport by making it attractive for new audiences. Read all about that unique experience after the jump. Continue reading →
