We are now a carbon neutral company. More
We plant a tree for every order placed and every member of our club. More
We are moving towards only using 100% recycled card and paper and fully compostable bags in our packaging. More
At Planet LP, we spend our time redesigning, reimagining, reshaping - that’s our comfort zone. We like change, we embrace it, and now a better kind of climate change is catching on. We are now a certified carbon link to pdf neutral company. We have minimised the carbon that we directly produce and use in terms of energy (type 1 and type 2 emissions) and we have offset what we can't eliminate. We’re now encouraging our suppliers to take the steps in becoming carbon neutral, heading towards net zero targets, being green inside and out, top to bottom. It can’t just be us - we know that, and it won’t just be us. Not only are we changing the eco-presence of the companies that feed us; those companies are rallying their own suppliers to follow suit, unleashing positive, meaningful chain reactions. Like-minded and as one, we’re working to amplify the sound of change; and together we’ll magnify the benefits.
Children come to fence at our centre. They visit our shop. When we look up from our laptops while working from home, we see our own children. As a family-run business, our lived experience is of being connected generation to generation, of knowing how the past can feed the present and how the present can help us guarantee our young people the best possible future. We want to give them that. In all reality, we want to give them the world.
On Planet LP we’re doing everything possible to be 100% carbon neutral, energy net zero, as green as you can get. We partner with Carma to plant a tree for every order we receive and for every new fencer who starts training with us. It’s because we know that everything lives where trees live. It’s new, exciting. And it’s growing.
On Planet LP, we’ve been moving towards a more sustainable way of doing business for many years. It’s often the slightest and smallest of actions and ideas that help us bring about change. Switching to compostable bags that break down themselves rather than clog up landfill or suffocate seas - that’s a big deal on Planet LP. So is the self-lock system on our boxes that needs no tape or plastic strapping. And we get a warm feeling from recycling heat from our manufacturing processes to keep our factory toasty in the winter.
Now we’ve started, we’re finding we can’t stop. Planet LP’s focus is extending to reducing the transport of bought-in materials, minimising the volume and weight of shipped goods and remaining dedicated to incentivising green transport. Planet LP is fixed on only using renewable power suppliers and on using less energy in our manufacturing. We’re committed to repairing and maintaining personal fencing gear. We’re using locally sourced materials and eco-friendly chemicals in our clothing production. As well as looking outwards, it’s vital that we never lose sight of the within - what we can do as working humans by, for example, becoming a no-paper office. In fencing, we’ve been eliminating single-use plastic bottles, and introducing reusable drinking bottles in the vending machines at our centre and at events. Bit-by-bit, we’re moving forward.
We fencers like hitting our targets, but a target so huge can seem daunting. On Planet LP we can’t afford to be demoralised. This is the world we’re talking about - the air we breathe, the oceans that we want to see teeming with life, the sun that shines on our days. We have to take courage and engage in this fight. It isn’t hard or complicated. In fact, it’s inspiring. Saving the planet? That’s the coolest, most heroic thing a human can do.
