    DT for Copenhagen

Following a seamless journey to Copenhagen via Heathrow, Francine Robb and myself boarded the train to Gentofte where this season's Copenhagen Cadet Epee EFC tournament was taking place.  We had been asked by our friends at the Hellerup Club to head up the DT for 6th edition of this fabulous event.

    A Glance back at 2017

Having had a break from training after the Paralympics, I came into the 2017 competition season hungry for the win and looking forward to a start of a new Paralympic cycle. Tokyo 2020 seemed a distant goal at the beginning of 2017 but the year has gone so fast and already the 2020 games seem just around the corner.

    Injuries!

The first half of every season is always interesting.

As it is, everyone has different approaches, different goals, different vacations and different values. I notice that when I evaluate my first half of the season and discuss it with others. My results this season have not been so great. I was 1 touch from a 64 in Bern, and during the team competition, I got an injury which held me back the rest of year.

    FIE masks update FAQ

Here are a few questions and answers about the new FIE rules in regards to masks.

All new masks sold by Leon Paul are compliant with the FIE rule changes that will come into effect next season in Septembre 2018.

Why are the FIE changing the rules for all FIE masks?

Over the past 6 years, the number of masks, made by all fencing manufactures, falling off during competition has increased.

    Update: New season, new goals...

    Hey Leon Paul lovers!

The new season has just started so it’s time for a new blog.

Last season I took a little break from training because of the very hectic period around the 2016 Rio Olympics.

I learned after Beijing 2008 and London 2012 that it is very important to give your body and mind a long period of regeneration before starting another Olympic cycle.

    Rome World Championships 2017

I have recently returned from the World Championships in Rome, Italy which ran from the 7th-12th November 2017 it was a great but challenging event in more than one way! We departed for Rome on 5th November as we had weapons check on the 6th, my team mates were competing on 7th/8th and I was competing on 8th/9th

Just after we arrived in Rome, I started to feel unwell. This is one thing that every athlete dreads at an event of such importance, unfortunately it only got worse and reached a peak on Epee day. I always take every sensible precaution but sometimes you just get sick and have to make the best of what you have and ensure you work even harder on getting the right nutritional input.

    The Professionals

I hate outsourcing. It is something I am not very good at and it always causes me problems. I think to outsource work well, you need to be very detailed at the start of the process, you need to be able to accept that you have limited control and that sometimes things won’t be done as you would do them. I hate these things and that is why for the last 15 years I have tried to do everything in-house, at Leon Paul, in London. This way I can control everything and feel in charge of the companies own destiny...

    Looking back on Rio 2016

    Looking back on Rio 2016

With only 12 places available in my event, to qualify for the 2016 Paralympic Games I had to either win direct qualifiers Zonal/World Championships or rank within the top 6 of the world rankings after the automatic and host nation places had been awarded. The qualifying period for this ran from Sept 2014 - May 2016 and I was thrilled to secure an early lead in the rankings, winning GB's first Wheelchair fencing World Cup Gold in the first event and going on to complete a hat-trick in the next two events.
