The Science behind our World class ExoSkin II gloves
At Leon Paul, we are always looking for ways to improve. Our entire glove range is undergoing gradual enhancements, driven by our ethos of constantly asking, how can we do things better? The original ExoSkin glove was highly regarded internationally, so rather than reinventing the wheel, we focused on making small, meaningful improvements to enhance comfort and functionality.
One feature we wanted to introduce to fencing gloves is pre-curved fingers. Unlike most sports, fencing requires your hand to remain in a fixed, closed position for long periods—something completely different from the way most gloves are designed. If you lay a typical fencing glove flat on a table, it’s, well, flat. But when you hold a pistol grip, your hand is anything but flat. Recognizing this, we set out to design a glove tailored specifically for the unique demands of fencing.
When we began searching for a glove designer, we turned to Japan—a country renowned for producing high-end gloves. We partnered with a Japanese design house to create the new ExoSkin II glove, a project that has taken years to perfect. In fact, early prototypes were tested by fencers leading up to the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
To achieve the ideal shape, we crafted the glove using 10 laser-cut pieces of Dyneema fabric. These pieces work together to create fingers that are progressively more pre-curved, moving from the index finger to the little finger. This design ensures a more natural fit and better control of your weapon.
We also extended the hand portion of the glove slightly to prevent rubbing against the seam between the cuff and hand area—a common source of discomfort when using a pistol grip. Additionally, we carefully repositioned the seams to avoid areas of contact between your hand and the weapon, further enhancing comfort and durability.
The ExoSkin II glove is constructed using FIE-grade materials throughout. The stitching is done with high-tensile Dyneema monofilament thread, ensuring exceptional strength and durability.
We’re incredibly proud to introduce the ExoSkin II glove. It combines an incredible fit and feel with top-tier safety and durability, setting a new standard for fencing gloves. Whether you're a seasoned competitor or just starting out, this glove is designed to elevate your performance on the piste.

This is easily the most comfortable glove I've ever worn —There's no doubt it played a major role in my medal win in Paris! This glove is available both for foil and épée and with a lame cuff for sabre.
