At Leon Paul, we've put a lot of thought into the impact of our packaging. While it’s a visible and tangible part of what our customers experience, we wanted to dig deeper to understand if packaging was truly a significant part of our environmental footprint.

Plastic packaging is often seen as a negative, and we initially considered switching to alternatives like cardboard or starch-based biomaterials. However, the switch isn’t as straightforward as it might seem. For Example, if cardboard ends up in landfills, it can break down anaerobically (in the absence of oxygen) and release methane, a greenhouse gas much more potent than CO2. This makes the decision less clear-cut.

Because of these uncertainties, we’ve decided to take a step back for now. While we remain committed to reducing our environmental impact, we want to focus on areas where we can make more immediate, measurable improvements. We’ll continue to research and evaluate our options to ensure that when we do make changes, they’re the best choices for both our business and the planet.
