Why me?
There are loads of reasons to become a junior referee.
The scheme is great fun, will look excellent on your CV,
is a way to kill time between rounds at competition and
last but certainly not least can win you up to £100!
Who is it for?
14-17 yr old fencers with at least 2 years fencing experience
and BFA membership.
What training will I get?
1. Most training will be done at your local club and at
any other training sessions.
2. Specific refereeing sessions will be run by an experienced,
active referee (FIE if possible) - on request.
How will my accreditation be awarded?
You will take two tests to gain the qualification
1. The Theory will take place in a club under adult supervision.
2. The Practical will be taken by an FIE referee (or equivalent)
at a club session or other suitable event.
What then?
Once accredited the fencer will receive their referee
pack (see below) and can start to earn points by refereeing
at Under 13 events, both LPJS and British Fencing competitions
eg BYCs, regional etc. 16 and 17 yr olds with sufficient
experience can referee at Under 15 events. Other events
may be included at Leon Paul’s discretion.
Any cost?
Yes - £15 full registration fee to join the list
of accredited referees. The members of the referee squad
will be listed on the LP web site.
The Referee Pack contains:
LPJS Referee T-shirt
Ref file with laminated penalty sheet and cards, allen
key, log book, pen, certificate of accreditation
At events any refereeing is recorded in the log book.
The organiser should sign this to confirm points earned
and give out refereeing certificates.
Points at:
LPJS Pool of 4 2
BYC Pool of 5 3
Pool of 6 5
DE fight 1 Last 4 2 Final 4
LP vouchers will be awarded at the end of the season
to those with the most points – 1st- £100
2nd - £50 then according to total numbers.
How do I apply?
