The first Zagunis-Pro blade was designed to be as light as possible to give speed and control. This was achieved mainly by thinning the tip of the blade.
Mariel wanted to create something that performed like the Zagunis-Pro but lasted much longer. To achieve this the Leon Paul design team travelled to France to meet with Blaise Frere (BF) who are one of the most respected and skilled forges in the world. BF have been producing the highest quality blades for many years and now specialise in making FIE blades from maraging steel. Traditional maraging Sabre blade have lasted well but been too heavy and too stiff so we began work with them to make the first truly great maraging sabre blade. Together we produced 10 different prototypes for Mariel and she and her coach Ed Korfanty selected the design that gave the best performance.

By using maraging steel we have managed to keep the same feel of the Zagunis Pro but greatly increase the life of the blade and allow it to keep it's shape for longer. This means you get a consistent, durable, high performance blade.
