With S2000 blades some fencers are having injuries caused by contact with their opponents guard. The S89 pad is made from special 10mm thick high density impact absorbing foam. The foam is designed to have very good pressure distribution and energy absorption properties. Any impact of the thumb against the guard and the force is distributed over a wide area, which dissipates the energy without causing injury.
